When something bad happens to us it is easy to focus on the
problem and how bad it is. We say things like "it's not fair - why does this
always happen to me?" or "this is impossible, there's nothing I can do about
it", and the more we repeat these negative thoughts to ourselves the more debilitating
they become. These helpless thoughts then produce negative energy which builds
and builds until it saps our self-belief and confidence and we can't see anything but the problem.
One key to boosting your confidence and belief in your ability to cope is to focus on solutions rather than problems. Change your viewpoint and attitude by adopting the belief that 'there must be a way'. View
your problems as challenges to be solved and then focus positive energy into
finding solutions. Try the 'what if ...' approach and think outside the box. Even if a problem seems unsurmountable say to yourself "I
don't yet know what the answer to this challenge is but I'm sure I can find one - there is always something I can do to change the situation".
You can't change something that has already happened so why
waste energy worrying or moaning about it? Instead, focus all your energies on finding a course
of action that will take you forward into a positive situation and give you
back control of your life. Once you are able to focus on solutions rather than
problems you'll find your whole life becomes more positive, more productive and
more rewarding. After all ... there's always something you can do :)
