An effective 4-part
strategy for achieving your goals
Collected from experts throughout the fields of self-motivation,
self-improvement and personal performance here is a very effective 4-stage plan
for reaching your goals in the most effective way possible.
STEP 1 - Be
obsessed with what you want.
It's not enough that you want it - you've got to desire it so much
that you feel it flowing in your veins. You
think
about it all the time, day and night. You
talk
about it at every opportunity you get and you see it in every situation you're in.
If you're not fired up every time you think about it then you're
not serious enough.
To complete this first step re-evaluate and re-define your goal
until you know every precise detail and you are certain that it is your
passion, your fire and the very thing that makes you tingle with life and
excitement.
STEP 2 - Constantly
remind yourself of your goal.
Write your goal down on several Post-it Notes or small index
cards and put or stick them everywhere you will see them(eg your wallet, purse,
handbag, vehicle dashboard, bathroom mirror, bedside table, fridge, PC, desk
etc) and then read and say them out loud - daily and often.
STEP 3 - Visualise
and affirm your goal.
Have a crystal clear mental image of yourself already:
- in possession of your goal (eg driving your ideal vehicle,
winning a half-marathon)
- living the life you want (eg working at your ideal job, living
in your ideal home)
- being the person you want to be (eg your ideal size and weight,
feeling positive and dynamic)
STEP 4 - Continually
affirm what it is that you want.
For example, if you want to be a singer, say "I am a
professional singer performing in front of a large audience that is wowed by my
performance" and as you say it, really feel the happiness and excitement as you
see yourself performing. Then hear the audience applauding you.
Obviously it's not possible to focus on your goal all the time. Life somehow has a habit of getting in the
way! So the thing to do is concentrate on visualising, affirming, feeling and
being at one with your goal during the two most effective times of the day - just before you go to sleep and just after you wake up.
Focus your concentration on the achievement of your goal for the
15 minutes before you go to sleep and the first 15 minutes after you wake up. This way your sub-conscious will be working
night and day to move you towards your goal. All the time you are asleep it will be
thinking of creative ideas to reach your goals and ways of solving your
problems and then, when you wake, it will be fresh, alert, energised and ready
to take advantage of every opportunity that arises during the day.
