< Go Back Raising Your Self Confidence Posted: Mar 3, 2015 If you suffer from low self confidence the first step is to realise that
you were not born with it - low self confidence it is something that you've gradually
learned. This is important because it
means that you can 'unlearn' it if you want to. Change really is possible and your self confidence will improve with just
a little work and effort. It is crucial
to believe you can change.
It might surprise you to realise that your confidence in yourself is completely
within your control. Take the time to
digest the following suggestions and gradually incorporate them into your
life. The sooner you get started, the
sooner you will start to notice and enjoy your growing self confidence.
Pretend you are confident . One of the quickest ways to start feeling confident is to dress well and
look your best. When you look good it
changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. A new haircut or a new outfit can work wonders
and help you start feeling good about yourself.
Celebrate your successes . If you are in a slump you may have begun to believe that you don't do
anything right. It's time to start
noticing and celebrating your successes. These could be as small as sticking to your diet for one day or as large
as dropping two dress sizes. Pay
attention! You do something right every
single day so give yourself credit every time you do.
Choose positive people . If your faith in yourself has faltered, the last thing you need is to be
surrounded by people who criticise you or make you doubt yourself in any
way. Seek out friends who encourage and
inspire you and keep them firmly in your corner.
Become your own best friend . Most people would never dream of saying to other people the sort of harsh
and critical things they say to themselves. If you are one of these people it's time to change your self talk and become
your own best friend. Treat yourself as
a person of value, a person that you love and respect. Tell yourself how strong and capable you
are. Embrace your successes and forgive
yourself for your shortcomings.
Practise positive thinking . The key word here is 'practise'. If you have developed the habit of a negative approach to life you will
need to work each day to turn this around. Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts whenever and wherever they
creep in. Use positive affirmations to
continually coach yourself into better patterns of thought.
